Diving in Zeeland: discover the most beautiful places under the waves

Zeeland offers more than 100 official dive sites, many of which are located in and around the Oosterschelde are located. This dynamic diving area is known for its varied underwater landscape and rich biodiversity. Popular dive sites such as Plompe Toren, Zoetersbout and Gemaal Wemeldinge attract divers of all levels, thanks to their impressive marine life with cuttlefish, seahorses and colorful anemones.

Our tips for your diving weekend in Zeeland:

    Plompe Toren (near Burgh-Haamstede)

    Located next to the Plompe Toren, this dive site offers an impressive underwater landscape of reefs and algae. In spring, cuttlefish migrate to this site to spawn, creating a spectacular sight. Thanks to the alternation of sandy bottoms and rock formations, this is a great place for beginners and experienced divers alike.

    Zoetersbout (Zierikzee)

    Zoetersbout is a dive site with an abundance of marine life, including North Sea crabs, lobsters and schools of juvenile fish. Its sheltered location makes it a popular spot for divers who want to be less bothered by currents. In spring and summer, you can regularly encounter cuttlefish here.

    Wemeldinge pumping station

    This dive site is known for its mix of sand flats and rocks. This dive site is home to numerous small marine animals hiding among the seaweed. The diversity of marine life and relatively moderate currents make this a popular site for both recreational and experienced divers.

❄ What villages or towns are nearby?

Yes, as a beginner you can dive in the Oosterschelde, but there are a few things to consider. The Oosterschelde is a tidal water, which means there can be currents and some dive sites therefore require extra preparation. Tip: choose a quiet dive site. Locations such as Bergse Diepsluis and Zoetersbout are relatively sheltered and have less current.

The best time to dive in Zeeland depends on what you want to see and experience. In general, spring, summer and early autumn are the most popular seasons because of the pleasant water temperatures and rich marine life.
