The Eastern Scheldt

The Eastern Scheldt is the largest and most dynamic National Park in the Netherlands.     OosterscheldeMuseum | Yerseke

    Located in the mussel and oyster village of Yerseke, the OosterscheldeMuseum offers insight into the history of oyster and mussel culture in the Oosterschelde and the origins of Yerseke itself. Housed in the monumental town hall, the museum displays more than 1,600 objects illustrating the region's way of life. From the drowned villages to the innovative shellfish farming that made Yerseke world famous.

    Deltapark Neeltje Jans

    On the former working island of Neeltje Jans is Deltapark Neeltje Jans, a theme park that is both educational and recreational. The park offers exhibits about the Delta Works, including the Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier and the 1953 flood disaster. There are also interactive attractions, such as a hurricane machine, sea lion shows and a water slide, making the park suitable for visitors of all ages .

    Plompe Toren

    The Plompe Toren is a monument on the edge of the Oosterschelde estuary on Schouwen-Duiveland. It was once part of the village of Koudekerke, which disappeared in the Middle Ages due to floods. Inside, you learn about the history and nature of the area. From the viewing platform you have a breathtaking view of the Oosterschelde, the surrounding polders and nature reserves.

Fun cycling routes

    Discover North Beveland (approx. 35 km)

    This route introduces you to the island of North Beveland. You cycle along the shores of the Oosterschelde and the Veerse Meer, with various nature reserves and cozy villages along the way, such as Kortgene and Colijnsplaat.

    Watersnoodroute Schouwen-Duiveland (approx. 61 km)

    This route commemorates the 1953 flood disaster and takes you past various memorials on Schouwen-Duiveland. You start and end in Zierikzee and pass the Watersnoodmuseum in Ouwerkerk.

    Around Oosterschelde (approx. 61 km)

    This classic route takes you around the Oosterschelde, crossing both the Zeelandbrug and the Oosterscheldekering. Along the way, you will pass picturesque villages, such as Zierikzee and Colijnsplaat.
